i believe that lhasa's deaf/blind school has adopted bi-bi policy already when i visited its school last may and many of the kids there were signing like poets... they weren't even shy nor apprehensive...
i give the chinese education group a big pat...
after a week of working as a monitor for the gates, i'm actually relieved my job is done last saturday late afternoon. then it was super briskly busy for me as i had to attend a few toy events as well as a huge international toy fair at javits convention center for my new business. right now, i'm desperate trying to debug the web pages.
anyway, i was able to catch christo and jeanne claude being alone for a brief moment when i came to the boathouse for an early breakfast. i asked them if i could have a picture taken with them, and they much obilged only if we can head outside and take picture of their work instead of inside the boathouse's banquet room. i could tell that they are defintiely proud of their so-called 'babies.'

how do you like jeanne claude's flaming red 'do? it has blinded me for a few seconds until my pupils finally adjusted to her glowing 'do...
out of my busy schedule, i just had to give a brief quiet moment for a fellow ambitous globetrotter, sami salo, who passed away during his festive adventure in down under. we got to know each other better every time we bump in our traveling days.
may he rest in peace and his spirits are definitely everywhere at this moment for that he has the powers to go anywhere anytime unlike me.
for those of you who knew sami, you may want to share your fond memories of sami with his family:

since i monitored at the sheep meadows in central park...
i noticed that i was feeling more inspired every time i see the gates in many different environments. when it was raining last night, the gates gave me a positive aura (probably due to its saffron looks as they were gleaming out in the rain). the sun gave the gates a radiant glow everywhere. the wind gave the gates a bubbly spirit. i guess i should point out that in order to appreciate this vast art project, you'd need to spend at least a few days at central park to get the positive vibes.
i was told that for christo's drawings, he and his wife, jeanne claude, had actually walked over 100 miles in central park to look for the perfect ideal locations for the gates and changed their shoes 3 times... i guess that shows you how devoted the couple pursued for this huge project for the last 26 years.
anyway, i've heard that one of our paid volunteers is ACTUALLY a former governor of texas. funny how you meet some cool people at central park. today i met a CODA though she hasn't signed in years as her parents have long passed away a while ago... i met many germans and they are more entertaining to mingle with than americans as many americans are somewhat clueless about the gates while the germans are pretty educated... so much for the education of europeans... but hey, we the americans still kick ass... (or should i say ashamed to be americans?)
6 am: wake up
7 am: show up at central park's boat house to fill up the legal papers
8 am: christo and jeanne claude show up to give out a lecture about the gates and what we the monitors can do to help them.
9 am: assigned to section 2, area 3 which is one of the highly traffic areas with many people walking by which is on the northwest side of sheep meadows on the west side of central park. (if you see sheep meadows cafe, then you'll know i'm working near that)
10-12 pm: continue to walk around, answering questions, passing off the fabric swatches (they go about $20s on ebay), flipping the fabric back with a long tennis ball pole after a wind blows it over the gate, and posing pictures for many awe-tourists.
12pm: lunch at boat house... DELICIOUS lunch!
1pm: resume work. less walk, less fixing the fabric incidents, but MORE people coming to me asking for swatch (two most asked questions: do you have a swatch? and what is that tennis ball for?)
430pm: off
6pm: leftover dinner from vietnamese restaurant
8pm: bedtime
so i've slept for almost 12 hours last night! my feet were killing me last night, though the soreness have gone by this AM. i gotta wear a better pair of sneakers tomorrow. i have a day off today, so i'll be working on my business' website and spending time with my sweetheart tonight.
happy valentine's day even though we don't celebrate it much. to us, we celebrate valentine's day on any day...

this was still in a cocoon as someone haven't opened it yet:

my reaction: once susie and i got through central park via a public bus to west side from east side for the first time, i didn't even get inspired much by this sight. it was just merely a little sensation in my body once it brought me memories of my travelin' days in china where you'd see MANY beams like these christos' gates, but this time the chinese beams were decorated with many different landscapes on the top. if i recall correctly, there were like at least 10,000 wooden beams under one area somewhere in china. if i can try to find a picture of this and compare with christos' gates, i would find many intriguing comparsions between them. but nevertheless, i think i might go to central park again and find a high, towering ideal spot to view the central park's massive area.. (belvedere castle, perhaps?)
oh btw, i got a temporary job with the gates' project. i'll be working as a monitor for them for a week starting tomorrow. so if any of you ever get to central park and need some questions about the gates, feel free to find a monitor there and ask her/him to retrieve me and i can try to answer your questions about the gates' project...
funny shyt. of course, i've had a few clients ask me some lame questions that i've managed to answer 'em well to make 'em more comfortable and laugh about it the next day.
i'm sure that some of you went through this (both as a client or designer/support)

ok. here are a few picture of adidas nbhd that many japaneses are going crazy for...

(they were taken with my roommate's 'bling bling' canon 20D)
guess those japanese kicks aren't as flashy nor loud as you would expect.. eh?
i just recently sold a pair of adidas neighborhood kicks for $1000 off ebay as i've purchased this kicks for only $317 a couple of weeks ago at a small boutique in soho. this pair is one of the most sought adidas pair as it was limited to 300 pairs worldwide and mostly sold in japan. after just posting the listing on the ebay just a day, a shoe collector just used _buy it_ button to purchase it instead of bidding. it's going to be little difficult for me to let this precious kick disappear out of my hands but at least i know that most of the $$$ will be heading to our wedding funds ;-)

christo's _the gates_ is scheduled to open on feb. 12th.
