menlo connections

it seems like i'm getting into a high school reunion. with my buddy jeff promoting BLT and bumping into jordan, i had a lunch with an old friend here in nyc as he was here for business from CA plus i just saw an old classmate of mine on ESPN. gary johnson, as it seems he finally got promoted to MLB, was playing with the angels against martinez and his red sox team. as for now, johnson has been lifted for a pinch hitter in the extra innings and they're still playing. i wonder which menlo person is next for me to bump onto... no female ones, yet...

uh... as for apt searching, i'm still searching one...... to be continued...

first taste of a city that never sleeps

just woke up moments ago (it's around 120pm now) i got back home at around 630 am from a friend's big bash. i have to admit that i was pretty overwhelmed with the deaf scene as i haven't been socializing much for the past 6 months due to my extensive traveling. i wasn't really used to seeing many fast moving hands. i guess i'm starting to crawl back to the reality, but then i still have the itch to fly to phoenix soon this weekend! acccckkk...

oh yeah, happy 30th birthday, jarrod if you ever see this...

an old classmate

last night while taking a red eye flight to JFK, i just happened to be sitting next to an old classmate of mine in high school. jordan gersch whom i haven't seen since our graduation back in '94. he was with his gf to visit her folks. with my shaggedy long hair, i was surprised to see him recognize me right away with him asking if i'm gabe and i just immediately recognized him back.

andy, i still don't know if i'm ever ready to go back to the real world since i have the itch to fly to phoenix next week for a bouldering comp as well as its notorious vast party. (www.phoenixboulderingcontest.com but then wouldn't it be too silly to fly back to west after staying in the east for a brief time??? urggh.... uh, you gonna be in town this weekend? if so, i might bump you around then.

tim, let's just meet somewhere in NRG in a couple of weekends?

trip over

just got back to my parents' place today. the trip overall went pretty well and i'm taking a red eye flight to nyc tonight as my beloved honey just found out that she has two days off starting tomorrow! so time for me to climb out of my solitude and get quality time with her... maybe take her out to killington, vt this weekend to snowboard! i really missed snowboarding already despite being VERY rusty in boarding at mammoth yesterday.

it seems like BLT's doing well over the weekend raking an avg of $27K per screen in just 13 theaters, but it'll be a huge test to see how this movie plays in the mainstreamed audiences for the next few weeks. watch the movie and spread the word about it if you dig it! (i'm sure you would!)

it seems like the world has gone crazy lately... how in the heck have the sf giants playing sooo dayum well? they're 13-1 now!!! hope bonds get his ring this season.

btw, here's a pix of me chuffing at happies' in bishop:

bishop

today's my rest day in bishop.

it was a productive two day bouldering for me. flashed a v4 which was very surprising for me, and tryin' to complete this cool v4 roof problem. i know that i'll prolly make this project on my next go. i definitely need to bring spotters for this huge v3 highball, jedi mind tricks. it's sooo friggin' cool looking problem at pollen grains.

anyway, in regards to the previous comments about blt, i only saw the preview of the BLT and it just reminds me of my rebelin' time in h.s. i wonder how has the BLT fared this weekend now that it's out. i'm practically in middle of nowhere, but rocks and snow. i hope to go snowboarding at mammoth this tuesday after the snow.

oh btw, ash, i'm driving this pimpin' van that i even had a few climbers ask me where are the ladies? my dad's van is loaded with everything you can think of. leather bed, tv with dvd and vcr, soft thick carpet, etc. such a luxury of a bum climber!

better luck tomorrow

please watch this movie, _better luck tomorrow_, because i'm helping a friend who has worked her ass off on this film with promoting and all.

better luck tomorow

this film is on a limited release, so it's not available for an open caption film, but should this film continue to run for a long period of time, we might get to see it in open captioning. i really loved the film's concept as it did remind so much about myself in high school!

back in the states now

now back in the states...

i have the urge to hit a road trip soon to bishop for a while to snowboard and bouldering before i fly back to nyc and look for a job.

if you guys are up for some deep reading, i'd suggest you to read naomi klein's _no logo_ it's about how branding has a huge effect on our lives. even though i create logos for a living, i hope that i don't have big shot clients in the future. also, this book is one of those reasons why i've been wearing t-shirts ever since i started college. t-shirts are cheap and don't affect on sweatshops as much as i'd buy branded clothes. also, related to branding, i'd probably go nuts if i ever see an ad being tacked to one of those ancient forest trees in a national park or see a wildlife animal being 'tagged' with a sponsor's name on it. that's how crazy the world could have become if we don't do a dayum thing about these $$$ corporations.

ok, i've vented out enough and it's time for me to focus on logistics to bishop...

oh yeah, i wanna give a shout out to my hunny for putting up with my long vacation, and i really do admire her for the open communication between us. honey, i'll be coming home soon!

also one more thing... if you care, i just happened to be flying with a well known old timer singer, santana, and his band on the plane. seems like they were flying back home from a gig in sydney or so. no one seem to bother santana and the band much in the plane. wish i could have introduced myself to santana and let him know about my design services if he ever needs one, but then i don't think my style would ever fit with some of his psychledic flyers.

now in melbourne

just got back from the grampians.

i've never seen a national park that is filled with many wildlife animals like the grampians. i've seen kangaroos, emus, lizards, snakes, a porcupine, colorful birds, and even a couple of koalas though these koalas got labeled 'roadkills' it was pretty sad to see these koalas on the road. i take the granite boulders back as the boulders are actually sandstone and does remind me of soill boulders in a way. the development is pretty vast and the quality there is excellent. it seems like the grampians are mainly full of trad/sport climbers (mostly trads though). but they got dayum killer caves with topouts! i'd love to come back to the grampians again but this time with a group of boulderers. anyway, i think i'm ready to go back to the states! i'll be taking off sydney on monday to CA.
